The Toy Poodle is a lively, sensitive, playful, loyal, energetic, happy and loving dog who becomes attached not just to one person but to the entire family. Very human-oriented the toy poodle will turn mischievous and destructive if ignored or neglected. Toy Poodles are very high energy dogs with lots of stamina that need a great deal of exercise. When they do not get enough exercise toy poodles can become high-strung or nervous. Caring and generally calm the toy poodle can be patient and playful with children. The Toy Poodle has a long, soft, curly coat and it is usually solid, in white, black, apricot or gray.
Extremely easy to train the Toy Poodle loves to learn tricks and games or participate in dog sports like agility or obedience and is eager to please. The word poodle comes from the German word "pudelin," which means "to splash in water" and they were originally developed as water retrievers but later they also hunted truffles and performed on stage and in circuses.
The Toy Poodle is 10 inches tall, weighs between 7 and 9 pounds and has a life expectancy of about 16 years. Health problems to look out for with this breed include Addison's Disease, HD, PRA, bloat, SA, epilepsy, entropion, cataracts, renal disease, and allergies.
