Choosing a Vet
March 20, 2012 in Vet Care
Dog health and having a veterinarian is extremely important for your dog, but none of really think about it until something bad happens. Why wait for your dog to get sick, or injured to find the perfect vet for your dog?
Your vet can help your with everything from using the correct shampoo for your dog to setting an exercise routine for your dog. Having a trusted vet will mean that you are making sure your dog stays healthy and lives a long life.
There are many things to consider when choosing a vet. Here are just a few…
- Does the vet specialize in specific areas? Perhaps the vet is just a small animal vet or maybe he is both a small and large animal vet. It is important to know that your dog has a vet that specializes in what he needs.
- Is the vet available 24/7? Accidents can happen at any time of the day or week. You want to make sure that your vet can be available to your dog at whatever time of day.
- Can you get appointments easily? It is important that your dog does not have to wait for vet care when he really needs it. You will also want to make sure that the normal office hours of the clinic fit into your schedule easily.
- Is the clinic a welcoming place for you and your dog? Is the staff friendly, courteous and ready to help you? You want to find a clinic that has helpful staff ready to serve you and your dog. If the clinic is unwelcoming, your dog may become nervous about going to the vet.
- Is the clinic clean and organized? Cleanliness is important for your dog’s health. The exam rooms should look sparkling clean and look like your dog has been the only dog in the room. An unorganized, dirty exam room may mean your dog will go home with more germs than he came with.
- Is the vet patient and friendly? Do they take the time to get to know your dog and make him feel comfortable? Does the vet offer explanations or diagnoses in a way that you can understand? All of this is important because if your dog is nervous, he won’t want to go back to the vet. You also want the vet to be able to communicate with you effectively so that you know what exactly is going on with your dog.
Dog health is very important. You want your best furry friend to live a long, happy life. Don’t wait until an accident happens to find your vet. Check out your area, and ask friends who they have as a veterinarian and schedule an appointment today.
