This poor girl looks so sad to me. I wish she was closer to me so I could foster her…right now she is in Mexico waiting for a foster.

Sweet Fur Ball needs temp foster. Weighs about 1 pound. Recently separated from his Husky mother. Very laid back. Just wants to hang out all day. He can be clingy though.

Here is a Jack Russel I fostered – Funny story here (and kind of embarassing) – This Jack Russel had come to me at night and I didn’t have a chance to see him very well – then he ran away the same night. I spent the night on craigslist looking for him and found him. I went and picked him up (also at night in the dark) and brought him home. After…[Read more]

Here’s a few more pics of our rescues. The large white shepherd mix was my first dog rescue. Her name was Ice and eventually she went to the great family pictured. She came to Fuzzy Feet Rescue starved to death after delivering (and loosing) several puppies. She was my first and therefore the hardest to give away… The golden retriever mix…[Read more]

These are some pics of posie, a miniature poodle I rescued from Mexico. She eventually went to a great home after we resolved all her many health problems. Although I generally prefer larger dogs, I have found a special love of miniature poodles – such smart dogs – easy to train.

  • codydog started the forum topic Eczema in Dogs in the group Group logo of Dog Rescue Dog Rescue 1 month, 3 weeks ago

Dogs with poor immune systems frequently have eczema. Flea problems can either create or worsen an Eczema condition. So, if your dog is healthy enough, before you do anything else – treat your dog and all the […]

    • Yes, the most common reason for this issue among rescue dogs is a poor immune system and an untreated treat problem. But, other reasons for this problem might be an allergy to something in your home – in which case you have a little bit more difficult problem to treat. My dalmation had this problem and dispite all my attempts to treat it, he…[Read more]

  • One of the most annoying things about having multiple animals is the presence of fleas. They can make you literally crazy. I remember becoming so frantic with flea problems that I took a trip to get flea meds at […]

    • People do crazy things when they become obsessed with fleas. I could not sleep at all for weeks because I was the obsessed with the idea that the fleas were in my bed – this was after washing sheets in hot water every night with clorox!

  • I had one rescue dog – Posie- that would not stop coughing. Coughing can have so many causes and it is next to impossible to self diagnose. If it continues for more than a couple weeks it is probably a bacterial […]

    • I have heard that the vaccine for kennel cogh actually causes caughing in some cases and does not help dogs in any case. is this true?

      • I was lold that kennel cough vaccine works in about 60% of cases. I think it’s a bit like flu vaccine for humans – ther are SO many strains, constantly mutating, that it would be very difficult (and expensive) to have a vaccine that prevented all cases.

People who are worried about dogs coughing persistently should of course consult their vet.…[Read more]

        • Yikes and Yuck – I hadn’t thought of tapeworms. Parasites are pretty common among dogs in general and there are few things grosser than tapeworms! I guess we should all (humans included) have an annual worm cleanout? I know, I know….nobody likes to think about this issue – me included.

  • When I was doing dog rescue of 3rd world dogs there was one health issue that raised it’s ugly head countless times. The dogs I had were rescued from Mexico, but really Giardia can be found everywhere and it […]

    • And it is possible to transmit the inspection to your family. That’s why it is super important to wash your hands regularly and make sure the floors have been disinfected – esp. if you have young children crawling around on the floor.

I’m going to add a bunch of forum comments to this group now that it is all up and running. Especially info. on health issues with rescued dogs since that was such a huge issue for me when I was doing rescue regularly. We rescued dogs from Mexico which is a whole other topic – 3rd World dogs have a lot of water born illnesses in addition to…[Read more]
