I was lold that kennel cough vaccine works in about 60% of cases. I think it’s a bit like flu vaccine for humans – ther are SO many strains, constantly mutating, that it would be very difficult (and expensive) to have a vaccine that prevented all cases.

People who are worried about dogs coughing persistently should of course consult their vet.…[Read more]

Yes, we go nearly every week and I do a bit with them every day – maybe only 10 minutes but it keeps them up to scratch. That’s the idea anyway!! (we do obediance comps as well as flyball – just for fun)

Gallant effort – well done saving the dog, he was lucky not to be much worse

It’s been mentioned on here that we shouldn’t feed cat food to dogs (it’s too high in fat, etc) – well I wouldn’t anyway, it would be far too expensive!! I know this is a site for DOG people, but did you know that it’s far more harmful to feed dog food to cats? I can’t remember the details but if done regularly it can make them desperately ill.

I gather it’s a long process, Graham, as she has to be imported from Romania. Not sure how to filch a picture from facebook!! Why this particular dog has stirred up so much interest (and emotion) I don’t know – there are loads of dogs, even in this country, that have been in rescue for ages, but just because they perhaps don’t look attractive…[Read more]

It’s an on-going thing, Graham. I go to obedience training most weeks but hadn’t done much with them over Xmas and New Year. Being Collies (of a sort!!) they need the brain work!

Of course you can come & meet her, Nicky, if I get her! But there’s a long way to go I gather, and Val might not want a foster home for her, she hasn’t said definitely. Fingers crossed!

She’s not a pup, Jane, she must be at least 7. As far as I know she’s being brought over to the UK by a rescue and will eventually be rehomed from there. Poor dog, it will be a traumatic time for her and won’t be easy as she’s presumably never lived in a house and hasn’t been house-trained. At least she’s safe and will be going to a really…[Read more]

I have two dogs, a 7-year old collie cross bitch, Twiglet, and a Bitser (collie, kelpie, whippet??) called Douglas who is 3 and a total lunatic. They’re both rescue dogs (from Ireland) which is why I don’t know the exact breeding! Douglas adores flyball and chasing anything that’s moving, Twiglet likes flyball and seemd to enjoy agility the…[Read more]
