Alot of the craziness and trouble that comes from jack russells comes from boredom.

trying to find a jack russell to adopt is becoming hard work. Found one that would be perfect for our family but they won’t adopt out any dogs if you are over 50 miles away from the rescue, and we are 75 miles.

Be careful with Jack Russels – some of them are wonderful, funny, companion dogs. Others will drive you absolutely crazy with their level of hyperactivity. I bet if you were willing to go to Chicago you could get a rescue to adopt one out to you. Many rescues don’t care about distance.

I am curious to the why behind the distance. Is that a common requirement when adopting from a rescue?
-
my guess is so that they can keep track of the dogs? just a guess though.

But they have your address…that’s silly. There are rescues and shelters with whom they can partner with to do home visits and check ins.
I’m sure that your guess is close to accurate.

That is really true – and also true about the disorganization. I worked with 2 very organized rescues in California. But in Idaho things are not so organized and there is poor leadership. I finally stopped rescuing dogs because of it and have been doing cat rescue instead – though I think that has come to and end as well because my recent…[Read more]

Challenging your dog’s mind is extremely important. Here are some things to with your dog to help ease the boredom.
Thanks for posting. I think people underestimate how boring some dogs’ lives are. Bordom leads to all kinds of unhealthy behavior – chewing, barking, running away, etc. Isolation is also a big problem since dogs are pack animals and prefer to have at least one companion with them at all times.
